  • What Goes Around Comes Around...

Today I found out that the GM is fired. He is being escorted out of the building as I write this blog. I was instructed to return to my room for security purposes. He was dismissed due to his alcohol abusive conduct. It is one thing to drink, its another to drink and return to your workplace screaming:

    english translations:
    "fuck this fuck that"
"if they fire me i'll get their business licence removed"
"i'm the greatest you all suck"
"lets go find some japanese hos to have some fun with"
"if you don't drink with you don't bother coming to work tomorrow"
"fuck your dead mother have a drink with me"

So Mr. Baudmon got canned. The New Year is starting off with good news.

My Chinese New Year Trip to Shanghai and Guangzhou was fun. It consisted of alot of eating, some drinking, traveling, sight seeing and much needed sleep.

    Shanghai was amazing. Picture this:
The entire population of Toronto having fireworks and fire crackers shooting them off all at the same time all night long. Now imagine seeing that from an airplane taking off. It was beautiful.

Unfortunately the one night that my friend called me i had a little too much to drink during dinner and passed out really early.

Guangzhou was a nice change of atmosphere. Every speaks cantonese there so i felt more at home there. The prices for everything there is alot cheaper than shanghai and beijing. You can live like a king if you made $1500CAD a month.

Both cities were really quiet compared to normal because alot of people went back to their homes for the new year. The news said that over 300 million chinese migrated home this new year.

anyways i just got the call to return back to work.

    more blogs to come later.

  • Recognize and Realize

"The forbearing use of power does not only form a touchstone, but the manner in which an individual enjoys certain advantages over others is a test of a true gentleman."

"The power which the strong have over the weak, the employer over the employed, the educated over the unlettered, the experienced over the confiding, even the clever over the silly - the forbearing or inoffensive use of all this power or authority, or a total abstinence from it when the case admits it, will show the gentleman in a plain light."

"The gentleman does not needlessly and unnecessarily remind an offender of a wrong he may have committed against him. He cannot only forgive, he can forget; and he strives for that nobleness of self and mildness of character which impart sufficient strength to let the past be but the past. A true man of honour feels humbled himself when he cannot help humbling others."

  • Chinese New Year in China

New Year is this weekend. I will be going to Shanghai and Guangzhou to visit my family there. I'm pretty excited to get out of the hotel for a while. Living at the place I work is not the best situation. There are Pros to this situation like waking up later for work and after work just going up to your room but you don't get a break from work.

Dinnertime conversation consists of what happened at work. At least once a week there is a business dinner or dinner with a coworker that consists of talking about work. If I sleep in on the weekend everyone at work knows. If I go out everyone knows. Now think about my laundry. Yes everyone knows. I bought some new year presents to give to my training managers and everyone knew about it before I gave them out. I stopped eating breakfast in the morning to get some more sleep. The manager of the Food and Beverage department came up to me and asked if i didn't like the food or if something was wrong with the food.

I hear the lobby music in my head when i shower. Just need a break from this place right now.

I'm not sure why but for some reason it seems like everyone is very busy and works hard at their jobs but nothing really gets done. I'm still trying to figure that one out.

I found this video somewhere in my quest to find street racing:

Japan looks like its alot of fun. Chasing cops without any fear. CRAZY!

For all those in Toronto hope you have a great Chinese New Year Celebration whatever you do.

If thats not your bowl of rice...try this:

  • In the PRC VIP

After 3 weeks in the city I have finally ventured out to a club on friday.

I met a coworker that went to school and lived in montreal for 8 years.
He took me out to his friend's club on friday night. Apparently it just opened up recently.
The club is a midsized club with 2 floors.
1st floor is the club and the 2nd floor is the VIP.

I met the owner of the club outside and his staff led us up to the VIP. The music playing was hip hop, r&b mainly from north america but a few songs from korea and china. Basically top 40 with some asia pop feel. Since my coworker is in his 30s he doesn't really know music. A Fruit platter and a massive bottle of Hennessy was setup with an assortment of mixers. Bottled tea is mainly used to mix the drinks. Each VIP Table has their own hostess. She lights your cigarettes, mixes the drinks and pours shots for you. My coworker told me that there is an employee that works that who's sole purpose is to bring single females up to the VIP to introduce them to single men. In china it doesn't matter if you have looks. Money and power is what matter. I saw tons of balling but mad ugly chinamen there with a train of females just hanging out with them.

So after playing dice for 2 hours i was feeling pretty buzzed. The music stops and a band goes on. But they perform hip hop songs. You have no idea how terrible Dr Dre's The Next Episode sounds karaoked by a mainlander. Dancing to urban music is NOT a strong point for the locals at this club.

The fashion at the club was basically high end brand name everything. This was a balling club. Admission is expensive compared to salaries here so only the rich can afford to come.

The owner was a really nice guy but has that san-gai aura. Can't really say that much more about that.

Overall the experience was nice. Everything was on the house. Now thats REAL VIP. I didn't realize how drunk i was until i started stumbling around leaving the club almost tripping down the stairs.

Next week i'm suppose to head out with a big group of coworkers to another club. Pretty interested to compare an affordable local club to this baller club.

on another note...everyday i see someone that looks identical to someone back home. i guess with 2 billion chinese in the world it makes sense that a few people here and there might have a few lookalikes...

Margaret sent me pics of her visit to Dave's house:
    My GOD DAUGHTER ISABEL:-

she's going to be a handful. found a fanban honda jacket for her the other day....hehehe

    anyways...time for bed
